Is there anything as beautiful as a blanket of pure white snow? It is a sparkling canvas for a fresh start.
Looking out at it, any hints of negative are wiped away. It is easy to imagine a future the way we would see it in a perfect world.
The month of January is like the snow day of the
year. Anything is possible. We dream up ways to reinvent ourselves. We focus on what we can change and set lofty goals. There is no way we can live up to these goals, but we try for a few days anyways.
I gave up resolutions years ago out of defeat. There was nothing quite as deflating as failing a few days into the new year.
Now if I want to be healthier, I start when I am motivated.
If I want to start a new Bible study habit, I make it happen that week.
There is no need to wait until January 1!
One thing I started last year that worked wonders
on my heart is to pray every day for God to give me a peaceful heart.
I have been a worrier all my life and fear and worry were taking over too much of my time. There didn’t have to be a logical reason to worry; I just did it automatically.
Once I gave up trying to stop worrying on my own, God had room to work. It didn’t take long for Him to step in and calm my anxious heart.
God wants us to come to Him! He knows we can’t get through life alone and He longs to help.
Matthew 7:7 says, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”
When I asked God to give me peace, the floodgates of heaven opened so blessings could be poured out on me.
I have not been the same since then!
Once I started feeling less worried and more at peace, I knew not to stop praying. Fear is one of my weaknesses and will always be.
I could easily think I must be cured, but I know better. It is only through God working in me that I am not where I started. I need His daily peace to keep me moving in the right direction.
We should enjoy those brief times of newness. Embracing a fresh start and reveling in God’s work is a big part of life, but we should never try to do it all on our own.
Life is a journey and new paths can begin at any time, if we are paying attention. When God starts pulling at our hearts to make a change, we should ask for help and then grab on for the ride.
He will provide all we need and more.
Is there a weak area of your life that you struggle
with, no matter what you do?
I challenge you to begin to pray every day for God to help you. He will step in when You ask!
