I just wanted to encourage you with this verse today.
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1
What does it mean that God is our refuge?
What does it mean that He is our strength?
What does it mean that He is our ever present help in trouble?
Imagine a storm is coming and you’ve been alerted in time to make it to the storm shelter in the basement. A sound like a train driving through your home comes, shakes the entire house and then leaves.
You wait a while to ensure the storm has passed before coming out.
When you do come out you drop to your knees at the damage to your home and the homes of your friends.
Psalm 46:1 is encouraging because we will go through storms in life. We all will. The bible promises us that we will go through hard times, BUT we have Jesus.
Our refuge from the storm. Just like a storm shelter against a tornado, we can run the Christ for shelter.
He is our refuge, our resting place, our place to be renewed when we are weary.
He is our strength!
We do not have the strength it takes to get through this life alone but God does!
God offers us everything we need to get through each trial.
He encourages us to not give up, to keep pressing in and pressing on.
He is our help when we are in trouble. A shelter from the storm.

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28
“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8
“But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.” Psalm 86:15
Lord My Refuge and Strength
More times than I’d like to admit, God has found me on my bed pouring my eyes out in tears or pitching fits on why my situation isn’t better by now.
Yep, something like a spoiled child. Sadly, but true. However, like any loving father, He is there comforting me.
I picture Him holding my hand through the hard times in life. He sends the Holy Spirit to comfort me. Which I totally need! I will get waves of peace to calm me as I read His word.
He will bring up certain bible verses like Psalm 46:1 to remind me that He is here with me and has everything under control.
He gives me christian friends and family to lift me up in prayer.
