My Word Theme for 2016

The purpose of a theme word is to help inspire, encourage and motivate me to live intentionally. 

This is my first time to choose a theme word and scripture for my year.

I saw on FB women doing a “name your day” challenge. It is where you look at your day – good and bad – and choose a word to inspire you to get through that day.

I loved the idea and decided to choose one for my 2016. I also decided to pick a bible verse or two to go along with my inspirational word. 

To inspire and motivate me during my 2016 I have chosen: 


Focus on my relationship with God. 

Focus on my marriage
Focus on my kids
Focus on my health
Focus on my ministry
Focus on my blog. 

Focus. That is what I want my year to be all about. 

I want to be intentional about my walk with God, being the wife and mom that I am called to be as a christian, be the homemaker I am suppose to be, take care of this body that God has given me and to be used by God in ministry and blogging. 

My goal is to be focused without fear, procrastination and laziness.

Now I can’t leave out the Holy Scriptures when choosing to “Focus” my year, so I have also chosen a couple of Bible Verses to help keep me focused. 

Philippians 4:8 

 “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”

Philippians 4:13

 “I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”

Philippians 4:8 is to remind me what God wants my thoughts to focus on. He calls me to think on good things and not dwell on the negative. Bad things will happen. Nothing has taken God by surprise. Allowing negative thinking to hold me hostage is not acceptable anymore. God is enough for me and He will be my refuge and provider. 

Philippians 4:14 is to remind me where my strength, grace, hope and love comes from. On days when I may feel like giving up, this scripture will inspire me to stay focused and intentional. 

It’s never too late to choose a word and bible verses for your year or even your day to help you live intentionally for Christ!

Dear Heavenly Father, 
I’m excited that you have given me another year to seek after You. Thank You for being our King of kings and Lord of Lords. Your love is amazing. I ask that You would help me to always be focused on You. Help me to live intentionally by being the wife, mom, and woman You have created me to be. Help us all, Lord, to be mighty christian women for You. In Jesus’ Holy name I pray. Amen.

  1. My word for 2016 coincidentally, is Focus. In the past few years I have been juggling too many balls. I decided last week that I wanted to focus on one thing at a time, live intentionally instead of impulsively and make every effort to focus and God for my direction. My verses which I don't have just one because I strive for both are Proverbs 4:25-27  Let your eyes look straight ahead, fix your gaze directly before you. 

    26Make level paths for your feet and take only ways that are firm. 

    27 Do not swerve to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.
    And Colossians 3:22 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

    I pray that focusing on what really matters will give me more time and more success in the things God wants me to do

  2. My word is Change. There will be many changes happening this year…a daughter getting married and moving away, downsizing our home, getting rid of debt, changing our eating habits, etc. Many Changes coming my way.

  3. Love your word, Starla! This is my first year choosing a word and it's not what I expected. I've known what it would be for a few months & that's probably because the Lord knew it would take a few months to get used to the idea! My word is "REST". I don't do so well with that. Matthew 11:28-30 is among the verses that apply.

  5. My word for 2016 is Strength. 2015 was a tough year struggling with anxiety/panic attacks, a cross country move, marriage struggles, day to day Stress/frustration of parenting…

    Isaiah 40:31

    31 but those who hope in the Lord

    1 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.
