I don’t think I’ve ever had a time in my life when I haven’t trusted God.
I was blessed to have been raised by parents who taught me about the faithfulness of God. Ever since I began my own relationship with Christ, I have always, always known that no matter the circumstance, God can be trusted.
Even when my world has been shaken, I can still trust God.
Even when my plans fall through, I can still trust God.
Even when I don’t know what lies ahead, I can still trust God.
Why though? Why do I trust God?
Well, why do trust the people you trust? I bet if you made a list of the characteristics of all of them, you would find they are true to their word. They will do what they say they are going to do. They don’t intend to hurt you. They love you.
God is all those things: true to His unchanging word, does and will do everything He says He will do, wants the best for us and loves us beyond compare.
I haven’t had a perfect life or had all my plans go as I anticipated. In each circumstance, I knew to place my trust and faith in God because He would bring good out of whatever it was.
Sometimes I was brought to my knees in tears because of the circumstance, but never because I doubted that God could carry me through. He gives us no room for doubt. No reason not to trust Him.
Does it mean it’s easy?
No, but as we continue to place our trust in Him, it becomes easier and easier to die to the emotions that can so quickly distract us from keeping our eyes on Him.
“So we say with confidence,The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me? Hebrews 13:6
You lost your job? Trust that God has another opportunity where you could serve. It might not be where you want to be, but it’s where He wants you to be.
You got a bad medical diagnosis? Trust that God will use it to draw you closer to Him. You can provide empathy and encouragement to others in your situation.
Your spouse cheated on you? Trust that God will help you forgive and that you are still loved and of worth.
You feel stuck in addiction? Trust that God has given you an escape and that you can be free with His strength.
When you feel like God hasn’t heard you or has let you down, don’t believe it. He hears the honest prayers of us when we call upon Him in faith.
But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit. Jeremiah 17:7-8
Yes! What a wonderful way to put it! I never worry that God won’t provide. I never worry that God won’t see me through life’s curve balls. He will never leave us or forsake us. Never!
“Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life.” Psalm 143:8
Where do you need to trust God more in your life?
