A Year Older, A Step Closer: Birthday Devotional
Inside: A birthday devotional I wrote for my birthday this year.
As I woke up this morning, I felt a surge of gratitude washing over me as I hear the singing of the birds outside my window. Today is my birthday, another year bestowed upon me by the grace of God.
As I turned to my favorite scripture, Lamentations 3:22-23, I was reminded of His unfailing love and mercies that are new every morning. Indeed, each day is a divine gift, a fresh page to write my journey on, under the watchful and loving gaze of our Heavenly Father.

Birthday Devotional
Enjoy this birthday devotion I wrote for my birthday this year.
As we mark another year of your life, I am reminded of the Scripture’s wisdom in Proverbs 27:1, “Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.” It’s natural to face this day, your birthday, with mixed emotions.
Joy for life, gratitude for milestones reached, and perhaps a tinge of uncertainty for what lies ahead. Uncertainty can often breed fear, doubt, and confusion – these feelings are part of our human experience.
Let’s consider the story of Moses. When he was called by God to lead the Israelites out of Egypt, he was consumed by doubt and uncertainty. He felt ill-equipped, inadequate, and unworthy (Exodus 3:11). Yet, despite his fears, he chose to listen to God, to trust in Him, and to step forward in faith.
This is the same choice we are faced with every time we blow out the candles on our birthday cake. We can choose to let fear and uncertainty overwhelm us or choose to trust in the promise that God has for us, which we find in Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
So today, on your birthday, I want you to remember the story of Moses, who despite his fears, chose faith over doubt. Trust that God’s plans for you are good, even when they may not align with your own expectations.
If there’s a problem, there’s a solution – and more often than not, the solution is a matter of perspective. We may see an insurmountable mountain, but God sees a stepping stone. We may see a closed door, but God sees an opportunity for a new beginning. When fear and uncertainty knock at the door of your heart, let faith answer.
In the words of Apostle Paul in 2 Corinthians 12:9-10, “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
As you step into a new year of your life, let the grace of God be your strength. His power will guide you through the mountains and valleys of your journey. No matter the trials or tribulations you may encounter, His love remains steadfast and immovable. This assurance is our comfort and our solution.
So, on this special day, let’s raise a toast to faith over fear, to strength in weakness, and to another year of life under God’s gracious care. Let your birthday be a reminder that you are part of His divine plan and that every step you take, guided by faith, brings you closer to His purpose for you.
Happy birthday! Celebrate with joy, gratitude, and a heart ready to embrace the blessings of the coming year.

Birthday Devotional Verse
What is a good Bible verse for a birthday?
A wonderful Bible verse to share for a birthday is found in Psalm 90:12:
“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”
This verse is a thoughtful reflection on the importance of cherishing each day and using our time wisely. It also serves as a reminder to seek wisdom from God, which is a fitting message for a birthday, a day that often prompts reflection on personal growth and life’s journey.
Another lovely birthday verse is Psalm 118:24:
“This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
This verse is a celebration of the day itself, and a reminder that every day, including our birthday, is a gift from God to be rejoiced and celebrated. It carries a joyful message that can uplift and encourage the birthday celebrant.

Birthday Devotional Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before you today to celebrate the gift of another year. We thank you for your abundant love and mercy that you have poured upon our friend on their special day.
Lord, we ask for your blessings as they step into this new chapter. May their path be lit by Your wisdom and guided by Your grace. As in Psalm 23, let them find comfort knowing that they lack nothing under Your care.
Help them to embrace both joy and challenge, to grow in faith and love. May they continue to shine Your light and share Your love with those around them.
In their moments of doubt, remind them of Your promise in Jeremiah 29:11 – that You have plans to prosper them, plans of hope and a bright future.
We thank you for their life, their journey, and their heart. In the precious name of Jesus, we pray.
Amen.
