Surrender and Trust in the Lord go hand in hand. Choosing to Surrender to God with her head buried in her arms, she wept silently at the table. “Why, God, why is life like this?” Desperately, she begged God for answers.
“Have confidence in me,” He whispered into the depths of her soul. “In all your ways, acknowledge me. Seek my face and trust my plan for your life. Surrender. Place your life in my hands and allow me to carry you home. Remember, before I formed the stars, I held you in my heart.”
Surrender does not come naturally. As free-willed humans, trusting the unseen, contradicts our nature. Surrender is a matter of faith. By failing to trust God, we cannot surrender entirely to Him.
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.
Psalm 139:13-16 NIV
The words carefully penned by King David long ago, “All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be” still offer truth today. From the moment you took shape inside your mother’s womb until the day your body is laid to rest–and beyond–He who gave the sun it’s shine crafted your path.
Just like a master builder sketches out plans before one stone forms the foundation, before the ground breaks, He who builds perfection outlined you in His book. You are not a random act or the last minute thought.
Why on earth do you try to change the blueprints He made for you? Why do you walk a different path when He who does not create imperfection perfectly charted your course? Why do you continually seek your agenda, your way, and not His?
The circle comes back to trust and faith. Do you trust the God who knew you before He named the stars? Do you trust Him enough to step out in surrender, believing in faith that His ways are the truth? Do you trust the Almighty who has never failed or do you continue relying on your failing decisions?
Choosing to Surrender to God
After days of wrestling with her failing life, she threw in the towel. “What a idiot I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? What gives me cause to think I know better than He who tells the universe when to contract or expand? You have a plan for my life, Lord. A plan to prosper me, not to harm me. I choose to trust you in surrender. Take my life and lead me down the path you forged for me well in advance of my life. All to you, I surrender.”
