Are you praying for a breakthrough? Use the Bible verses for breakthrough printable below as you seek God and pray through this hard season in life.
“Real spiritual breakthroughs aren’t achieved without prayer. Prayer is necessary to weaken our opposition.”John Piper
What Is A Spiritual Breakthrough?
“Usually breakthroughs are not achieved by prayer alone — there are works to be done and courage to be exercised. But real spiritual breakthroughs are not achieved at all without prayer. Concentrated, specific, persistent, prevailing prayer, often engaged in by two or more (Matthew 18:19), is needed to weaken our spiritual opposition. And fasting is a wonderful help. “Fasting tests where the heart is. And when it reveals that the heart is with God and not the world, a mighty blow is struck against Satan” (A Hunger for God).
So, if you’re praying for a breakthrough and not seeing it, and in fact experiencing more temptations to discouragement, frustration, weariness, doubt, and cynicism than before, do not give up. Increasingly intense fighting always precedes strategic breakthroughs. Strategic ground is not yielded easily. You’re up against more than you know. But “he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world” (1 John 4:4). He has overcome the world (John 16:33) and he will give you justice (Luke 18:8).” – Desiring God
What Did God Say About Breakthrough?
Sometimes it feels like I’ve been to hell and back and hit every speed bump in between. I’ve known great pain. I’ve begged and pleaded with God. Fasted and Prayed. Did all I could think of that was humanly possible and still my heartache grew more and more.
What exactly is “breakthrough?” How exactly do we know if we are already experiencing it? To most people, the word “breakthrough” is equivalent to the word “success,” and “success” is equivalent to the thought of achieving something extraordinary.
The word extraordinary is a broad word itself that is often mistaken as action-based. Most people think that there should be such a huge change in life needs to be done in order to achieve this, but let me tell you this, the greatest breakthrough that can actually make a difference in your life is having a spiritual breakthrough.
Spiritual breakthrough doesn’t necessarily mean that we have to be the most holy person on earth, because that’s impossible, we are humans. It doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to go through such substantial growth overnight. The secret is, the closer that you get to God, the closer that you’ll get to your breakthrough.
Each breakthrough is different, just look at the spiritual breakthroughs of the prominent people in the bible. When we think about it, Noah built an ark and created a whole different generation, while Peter denied Jesus three times, but yet he repented. Even if Peter didn’t do such a big thing like building an Ark, his repentance was sufficient for him to gain the authority of having the key to the kingdom of God.
How To Pray For A Breakthrough
As Christians, we crave for spiritual growth, we pray for a change and an awakening in our souls or hard life we are facing, but sometimes, the practical steps of how to gain those things are blurry and can be vague.
When this happens, it is important to realize that we have to go back to the Lord’s instructions and start to redirect our focus not just with the things that we want to happen, but to our Creator and His will for our lives.
As it says in Hebrews 4:12, “for the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart,” God knows the intentions of our hearts and He wouldn’t give us success if our intentions are just our own selfish ambitions.
If you are a new Christian, who recently declared Jesus as your Lord, there is no greater breakthrough than receiving the knowledge of salvation that Jesus Christ has given to you.
Through His blood, we experienced rebirth into a new creation. However, after becoming a Christian, we undergo a lot of challenges as we read our Bible, study God’s word and pray. We grow in our faith.
Sometimes, we may feel like nothing is happening and our Christian life is becoming more linear and stagnant. Consistent prayer, Bible ready and Bible study is vital in order for us to know how to assess ourselves and step forward in the breakthrough God has for us.
“Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”Ephesians 6:12
Fasting Scriptures For Breakthrough
When praying for a breakthrough – with our persistent prayers, it is also important too fast while praying. Just like how Jesus and His disciples fasted. Fasting is an act that helps us be more surrendered to God.
Fasting also allows God to see in our hearts that we are in deep desire for the things that we are praying for. The season of fasting shows your own season in Faith.
When you are praying and fasting, remember what is said in Hebrews 11:5 “He who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” Sometimes God doesn’t give us spiritual breakthroughs because He wants us to learn something, and He wants you to receive it from Him, not just through Him. For He is the source of every blessing and every success.
Use these Bible Verses when you fast for a breakthrough.
You know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.James 1:3
And He said, “Abba, Father, all things are possible for You. Take this cup away from Me; nevertheless, not what I will, but what You will.”Mark 14:36
No trial has overtaken you that is not faced by others. And God is faithful: He will not let you be tried beyond what you are able to bear, but with the trial will also provide a way out so that you may be able to endure it.1 Corinthians 10:13
Examples Of Breakthrough In The Bible
“Although the words “spiritual breakthrough” are not mentioned specifically in the Bible, there are instances of what we call breakthrough. The book of Acts is full of these examples. Saul had a spiritual breakthrough—a literal eye-opening experience—when he sees who Jesus really is (Acts 9). Peter had a breakthrough in Joppa when he realized the gospel is meant for everyone, not just those who follow Christ (Acts 10). In both of these situations, there was a struggle that finally got to the breaking point and was resolved.” – CrossWalk
Praying For A Breakthrough
There are a variety of examples that can be found in the bible about spiritual breakthroughs. The Bible is a book full of breakthroughs of people that are not necessarily perceived as “great” in the world, but this book emphasized the breakthrough of sinners. For God doesn’t call the qualified, but He qualifies the called (1 Corinthians 1:27-29).
Moses started as an insecure person during his first days of his walk with God. At first, he chose to believe the lies of Satan that he was inadequate and not talented enough to lead the people of God.
If Moses wasn’t praying for a breakthrough he wouldn’t have been able to be used by God! God showed him what He’d do through Moses, if he just believed in God’s promises and repent from his sins, in which he did, and after doing so, Moses lead two million Hebrews out of Egypt. They lived for 40 years in the Sinai desert. This is now remembered by the Jews as the festival of Passover, which was also practiced in the gospels. Passover is also sometimes called the Festival of Unleavened Bread.
Imagine what would happen if Moses didn’t allow God to move in his life? What would have happened if Moses wasn’t praying for a breakthrough?
Sometimes, all it takes is a mustard seed of faith, then you will be good to go on the way to your breakthrough. In Matthew 17:20, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
There are many examples in the bible of people who prayed for a breakthrough, some of the names include: Mary Magdalene, David, the guy with the legions, Ruth, Paul, and many more. But one of the greatest examples is Jesus Christ.
I want to remind all of us that before the crucifixion and before Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross, He had to pray alone in the Garden of Gethsemane while acknowledging his emotions and yet still choosing to believe that in God, everything is possible.
It is okay to have emotions amidst your desire to have your spiritual breakthrough. What is not okay is staying in that emotion and accepting a passive life, because there is no such thing as passive faith, having faith is always being active in the belief that God is the provider of it all.

Dear Father God, Thank you for being faithful and true to your promises (Number 23:19). I am grateful for Jesus who died for my sake. To God be the glory. Lord, I come today seeking a financial breakthrough and your supernatural blessing. I come to you because you are Jehovah Jireh (Genesis 22:14), the God who provides. Therefore I know that you are God who will supply ALL my needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:19) I believe that you are going to give me the resources and the favour that I need. And so I declare that I have favour wherever I go! (Genesis 39:21) God, you put these visions, desires, and goals in my heart [state what these are]. So, therefore, I declare in the name of Jesus that every single one of them will come to pass! (Habakkuk 2:2-3) I know God that you are moving things and working all things together for my good (Romans 8:28)” In Jesus’ name, Amen. Read more prayers on financial breakthrough HERE.

I pray and make a special request to You dear Lord to fill my children with deep and clear knowledge of Your will. Give them clear understanding into Your ways, your purposes and discernment of spiritual things. Let them clearly know Your truth in their lives. May they live and conduct themselves in a manner worthy of You, fully pleasing to You and desiring to please You in all things… and bear much fruit! I pray that they may be renewed and strengthened with all power according to Your mighty glory and to exercise every discipline, endurance and patience… persevering with joy. Thank You Father for saving them and sharing the portion of our inheritance as Your holy people in Christ with them. Thank You for delivering and drawing them to You out of the control and dominion of darkness and transferring them into the kingdom of Your son… in whom they have redemption through Christ’s blood… the complete forgiveness of their sins. In Jesus name I pray. Amen. Col. 1:10-14
