What Is A Feeling Wheel

Have you ever heard of a “feeling wheel?” It’s this cool circle filled with words that describe our feelings.

Think of it as a compass, but instead of pointing north, it points to what you’re feeling!

So, when you’re using this wheel, take a moment to think about what’s going on inside – are you happy, sad, confused, or maybe a mix of things?

This neat little tool can help you put a name to those feelings.

Imagine this: With a feeling wheel in hand, you’ll be like a detective of your own heart. By understanding your feelings, you can manage them better, and that’s a win for everyone!

And hey, if you ever find yourself in a tough spot, the feeling wheel can be a sidekick.

Dive into what you’re feeling, have a moment of reflection or prayer, and then decide on the next best step that aligns with your trust in God.

It’s a way to make sure your feelings walk hand-in-hand with the truth of our loving Father above.

The Psalms alone are a testament to God’s deep understanding of our emotional landscape. In them, every cry of the heart is echoed and met with His love.

Who Invented The Feeling Wheel

American Psychologist Robert Plutchik first developed the idea of a feeling wheel in 1980. His version was called ‘The wheel Of Emotions’ or ‘The Emotions Circle’. It presented eight primary emotions (joy, sadness, acceptance, disgust, fear, anger, surprise and anticipation), which Plutchik believed were the foundations of all others.

A similar concept was used by Dr Gloria Wilcox in her book ‘Feelings : Converting Negatives to Positives‘. Her version displayed six core emotions presented on opposite sides of the wheel: sad, mad and scared (the negative emotions) and positive, powerful and joyful (the positive emotions)” via the DadTrain.

How To Use A Bible Verse Feelings Wheel

First off, imagine a typical feelings wheel, which helps identify and articulate emotions.

Now, sprinkle in some Bible verses that resonate with each of those feelings.

That’s your Bible Verse Feelings Wheel! It’s a fantastic tool that connects our emotions directly with God’s Word.

Bible Verse Feelings Wheel Step By Step Guide:

  1. Start in the Middle: Begin by identifying the primary emotion you’re feeling. This is the central part of the wheel. For example, you might be feeling “sad” or “happy.”
  2. Expand Outwards: From the primary emotion, move outward on the wheel to more specific feelings. If you began with “sad”, this could lead to “lonely” or “discouraged”.
  3. Find the Verse: Now that you’ve honed in on your specific emotion, look for the Bible verse next to it. This verse will be directly related to how you’re feeling.
  4. Reflect and Pray: Read the Bible verse. Meditate on it, pray about it, and ask God to speak to you through His Word. Let the verse comfort, guide, or inspire you, depending on your emotion.
  5. Journal or Discuss: Write down your thoughts about the verse and how it relates to your feeling. Or, if you prefer, discuss it with a friend or a family member. Sharing can often amplify the insights you gain.
  6. Revisit as Needed: Emotions change, and so might your need for different verses. Anytime you feel a shift in your feelings, come back to the wheel and find a new verse that speaks to your heart.

Feelings come and go like clouds in a windy sky. The Word of God is the sun that always stays, providing consistent light.

Benefits of Using a Bible Verse Feelings Wheel:

C.H. Spurgeon

Personalizing Your Feeling Wheel

While the Bible Based Feeling Wheel is a universal tool designed to cater to a broad audience, the beauty of it lies in its potential for personalization.

By adapting the wheel to resonate with your unique spiritual journey, it becomes an even more powerful instrument for emotional and spiritual growth.

Let’s explore how you can make this tool truly your own.

Customizing Verses:

Every individual has specific Bible verses that resonate with them more deeply due to personal experiences, lessons, and phases in their faith journey.

Steps to Personalize:

  1. Reflect on Key Moments: Think back to significant moments in your life and the verses that provided guidance, comfort, or inspiration during those times.
  2. Annotate Your Wheel: As you identify those special verses, write them next to the emotions they relate to on your wheel.
  3. Personal Notes: Besides verses, consider adding brief personal reflections or memories linked to those scriptures. This adds another layer of depth and personal relevance to your wheel.

Integrating Prayer and Meditation:

The Feeling Wheel isn’t just a tool for identification—it’s a starting point for a deeper conversation with God.

Ways to Integrate Prayer:

  1. Start with Gratitude: Before diving into specific emotions, begin your prayer or meditation session with a note of thanksgiving for the clarity and guidance the wheel offers.
  2. Address Each Emotion: As you pinpoint a feeling on the wheel, offer it up in prayer. Ask God for guidance, comfort, or understanding related to that specific emotion.
  3. Scripture-Based Meditation: Once you’ve identified an emotion and its corresponding verse, take a moment to meditate on that scripture. Imagine the context, the message, and how it applies to your current situation.
  4. Journaling: After prayer and meditation, jot down insights, resolutions, or further questions that emerge. This practice reinforces the connection between feeling, scripture, and personal growth.

Every emotion we feel has been felt before and is captured in the pages of Scripture, reminding us we’re never alone.

Emotions: A Special Gift from Above

  2. Feelings as Guideposts: Ever felt guilty and then said sorry? Or felt super happy when doing something kind? Our feelings can often point us in the right direction.
  3. Life’s Color Palette: Emotions make life vibrant and rich. They’re like the colors of a sunset, each one adding its own beauty to our days.

Stories from the Bible: Feelings Edition

The Bible is like the ultimate storybook, and guess what? It’s packed with people who felt just like we do!

  3. Hannah: She really, really wanted a baby. When her wish came true, her joy knew no bounds. It’s a heartwarming tale of dreams coming true!
  4. Jesus: Even Jesus, God’s Son, had feelings! Whether he was sharing happy moments with friends or feeling sad, Jesus shows us it’s okay to feel and express our emotions.
