How do you start your day with Jesus? Do you have “The Bible Verse of the Day” type of scripture collection? The best way to start your day is in prayer, reading the Bible and thanking God for the day.
As a child I remember a clear, plastic box sitting on my parents cream colored dresser of drawers. The small box could fit in the palm of my hand and looked like brilliant crystal, with its cuts and design, it caught the light and was so pretty to my pre-teen self.
The small box lifted its top and inside was a stack of crisp rectangle cards that had printed “The Bible Verse of the Day” on both sides of it.
We were not allowed to just hang out in my parents bedroom growing up. That was their space. But on several occasions, I’d get ask to put something away in there or put something on my parents bed and I’d always stop by that crystal box.
My mom would set out one of the clean white scripture cards for her and my dad to read every morning. I liked to read them too. Gently grasping the shiny card stock scripture cards, I’d read the scripture once or twice and then carefully put it back in it’s leaning position against the crystal box.
How Do Your Start Your Day with Jesus
Every single day is filled with all kinds of situations that could upset you; things like losing your car keys or getting caught in a traffic jam. But you can choose to be at peace and in control.
God doesn’t always create difficult situations for us, but He will use them to develop our character.
When you and I take our minds off ourselves and our circumstances, and put our focus on God, His truth and loving others, we are embracing an attitude that will bring honor to Him.
No matter what happens during our lifetime, we can be sure that God is working everything out for our good.
What Does God Say About Starting Your Day
A Prayer to Start Your Day
Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love,
for in you I trust.
Make me know the way I should go,
for to you I lift up my soul. Psalm 143:8
Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love,
My love will fall and fail, but God’s love never will.
for I have placed my trust in you.
The psalmist is very intentional here: trusting God is an act of the will.
Show me the way I should go,
I pray, “Show me, Father, which way I should go today.”
for to you I entrust my life.
I say, “My life is Yours, Lord, and I trust You with everything.” –Sheila Walsh
How Do You Seek God In The Morning
With Focused Attention, because we desperately need God.
When was the last time you gave that kind of attention to anything?
When did you fix your eyes on something, and refuse to look away — not for social media notifications, not for emails, not for a snack, and not for coffee?
“I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways” (Psalm 119:15)
If all the joy in the Psalms seems unfamiliar or even unattainable in our everyday life, it might be because we have estranged ourselves from meditation; from diligently searching for God. Have we lost our hunger for going hard after him?
If we consistently skip time with God in his word and prayer because we love sleep, our hearts have fallen out of sync. Sleep is important (Psalm 127:2). But it is not most important. Food is important (1 Timothy 4:4; 6:8). But it is not most important. Marriage and family are important (Proverbs 18:22; Psalm 127:3).
But they are not most important. Communion with God — knowing and enjoying him in actual unhurried moments meditating on and praying to him — is more important than anything else we do, no matter how urgent everything else feels. – Marshall Segal
Positive Bible Verses to Start the Day
Starting your day with God’s word and prayer is so important. I know you’ve heard that so many times before, but it’s true. You wouldn’t recommend going without your morning java or breakfast? We need that nourishment to help our day get started on the right foot.
You need to cling to God’s word to thrive during those hard times in life! Yes I said thrive.
During your bible reading time, ask God what He wants you to know that day. What He wants to heal your from. Where he wants to take you that day.
If He leads you to certain bible verses, write them down and memorize them. Or during your time in the Bible, if you come across a passage in Scripture that stands out to you, write it down.
Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You. Psalm 119:11
Memorizing Scripture or hiding God’s word in your heart, helps keep you from sinning, helps you have spiritual arrows to fight the enemy when attacks come. It gives you the ammo to speak God’s truth over the hard situations you may face that day.
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2
