So I created an article that share 13 tips to memorizing scriptures to help me better obtain the Bible verses to memory…long term.

There are many reasons why we should memorize scripture. For one, when we memorize Bible verses, it helps us to keep God’s word in our hearts and minds, and it also gives us a ready source of comfort and encouragement when we are faced with difficult situations.

Additionally, memorizing scripture can help us to more easily resist temptation, and it can also give us a greater understanding of and appreciation for God’s word.

What Are The Best Verses To Memorize

There are a lot of great scriptures out there that are worth memorizing. Here are 10 of the best scriptures to memorize in my humble opinion.

I pray God uses these inspirational Bible verses to grow your faith and deepen your relationship with Him. Most of these are short bible verses, but just as powerful!

  • John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”

This verse is a good scripture to memorize because it is a reminder of the gift and sacrifice God gave us so that we may be part of His family forever.

  • Philippians 4:13 – “I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”

This is one of the verses I memorized as a child. On my darkest of days I have repeated this back to myself in an effort to calm and encourage my broken heart.

  • Proverbs 3:5-6 – “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”

Another verse I memorized as a teenager. I remember being told that as I grow up and live my adult life that God’s way and His truth is what will help me along the way…even on the hard days.

  • Joshua 1:9 – “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

What a great reminder that no matter what happens God is calling us to stay strong and have faith that He will see us through. He is always with us, even when we don’t feel like He is.

  • Psalm 46:10 – “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”

Be still. What a reminder we all need from time to time. Or at least I know I need that reminder. Being still before God is where we find restoration, renewal, wisdom, peace and strength to get through another day. Read this Be Still bible reading plan.

  • Isaiah 41:10 – “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

Are you going through a hard season? This memory verse has helped me get through my darkest of days and I pray it helps encourage your heart as well.

  • Matthew 6:34 – “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

When our thoughts get stuck in negative mode this verse is a good one to help us remember to not be anxious, do not let our mind ruminate, but instead to lay those troubles at the feet of Jesus and pick up his joy.

  • Romans 8:28 – “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”

When we strive to be close to God and walk according to His will we know that God will work all things out for His glory and our good. Yes, even the suffering we are called to walk through, He will use it for our good. And, I’m thankful for this truth.

  • Psalm 23:1-4 – “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.”

I have a list of the best Psalms to memorize. You can read that HERE. But, I just had to include this one in this as a best memory verse! Isn’t it comforting to know that God is our good shepherd and He will take care of us as we seek after Him with all of our being?

  • Philippians 4:6-7 – “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

We all could use peace in our lives right now, right? So much is happening in our world, in our country, in our communities, in our economy, in our finances, and in our families.

Not one of us had been exempt from hard times. Some may have had to experience less suffering than others, but we each have a story and testimony to share. Use this verse to help you gain God’s peace in your life.
