30 Forgiveness Journal Prompts

A. Honesty before God

  1. Describe the wound in plain words. What happened. What did it cost you. What do you fear now. Pray Psalm 62 verse 8 back to God.
  2. If God were to comfort you in one specific way this week what would it be. Ask Him for that.
  3. What do you believe about God because of this hurt. Which beliefs line up with Scripture and which need to be traded for truth.
  4. Write a lament in the pattern of Psalm 13 address complaint request trust.
  5. What part of this pain is grief and what part is anger. What does each emotion need from God today.

B. Receiving God’s forgiveness

  1. Write about a time God forgave you. How did that change your posture toward others. Read 1 John 1 verse 9.
  2. Where are you condemning yourself more than God does. Write a letter of self-forgiveness anchored in Romans 8 verses 1 to 2.
  3. What would it look like to walk as one who is already cleansed. Note three actions for this week.
  4. List the lies shame speaks over you. Replace each lie with a matching verse.
  5. Pray Psalm 51 verse 10 as a breath prayer for five minutes while you write what a clean heart would choose next.

C. Forgiving others wisely

  1. Name the person you struggle to forgive. What debt are you holding against them. Define it clearly.
  2. According to Colossians 3 verse 13 what does it mean to forgive as the Lord forgave you. Write a sentence that begins I release the debt of.
  3. What boundaries are necessary for safety and wisdom right now. Boundaries are not punishment. They are stewardship.
  4. If repentance were present what fruit would you expect to see over time. List concrete signs not words.
  5. Write a blessing prayer for the person who hurt you based on Romans 12 verse 14. Keep it short and honest.

D. When reconciliation is complex

  1. Write out Matthew 18 verse 15. What would a private truthful conversation require from you. What would it require from them.
  2. Where does it not depend on you Romans 12 verse 18. Name what you can own and what you must entrust to God.
  3. If reconciliation is not possible what does faithfulness look like for the next thirty days.
  4. What wise help do you need pastor counselor trauma informed friend. What would asking for help today look like.
  5. Draft a safety plan if triggers spike. Three grounding practices three people to text three Scriptures to repeat.

E. Healing the heart

  1. How has bitterness shown up in your body sleep appetite tension. Invite the Spirit to uproot the bitter root Hebrews 12 verses 14 to 15.
  2. Write a gratitude list that does not erase the hurt. Hold both grief and grace on the same page.
  3. Remember a time you saw God bring beauty from ashes. Record small evidences of redemption you see already.
  4. What would it mean to stop rehearsing the moment of harm. Draft a replacement thought drawn from Philippians 4 verse 8.
  5. Describe your future self one year from now if you keep practicing forgiveness. What habits did she choose.

F. Living as one who is free

  1. Write a one sentence forgiveness statement you can pray when the memory returns. Keep it biblical and clear.
  2. Identify a person you may have hurt during this season. What step of confession or repair is yours to take.
  3. Note three ways to serve someone quietly this week as a practice of mercy.
  4. Write a testimony paragraph about what God is teaching you. Who might need this story.
  5. Pray through the Lord’s Prayer slowly. Where does forgive us as we also forgive touch your life today.
