Micah is one of the twelve minor prophets in the Old Testament of the Bible. Here’s an overview of Micah and his book:
- Background: The Book of Micah is named after its author, Micah, who prophesied during the 8th century BC. He was from Moresheth, a town in the southern kingdom of Judah. His ministry likely overlapped with those of Isaiah, Amos, and Hosea.
- Message: Micah’s prophecies combine themes of judgment and hope. He criticized both the northern kingdom of Israel and the southern kingdom of Judah for their idolatry, injustice, and social corruption. Micah had a particular concern for the poor and vulnerable and was deeply critical of the leaders who exploited them.
- Notable Passages:
- Micah 3:11-12: Micah warns Jerusalem’s leaders who “judge for a bribe, its priests teach for a price, and its prophets tell fortunes for money.” He prophesies the city’s downfall because of such corruption.
- Micah 5:2: One of the most famous Messianic prophecies, which foretells the birth of the Messiah in Bethlehem: “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.”

What Is The Spiritual Meaning Of the Name Micah
The name Micah comes from the Hebrew Mīkāyāhū (מִיכָיָהוּ), meaning “Who is like Yahweh?” or “Who is like the LORD?” It’s a rhetorical question with a clear answer, no one compares to God.
This name carries deep spiritual meaning, reminding us of God’s unmatched power, faithfulness, and mercy. In a world full of false gods and shifting beliefs, Micah’s very name declares the truth: there is no one like the Lord.

What Happened To Micah In The Bible
The prophet Micah is known for his powerful messages in the Old Testament, but the Bible doesn’t give many personal details about his life or what happened to him in the end.
What We Know:
Where He Was From – Micah came from a small town called Moresheth in Judah, near Philistia. He lived during the time of Kings Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah (8th century BC), a period of corruption, injustice, and the looming threat of the Assyrian Empire.
What He Preached – Micah spoke out against the sins of both Israel and Judah, calling out corrupt leaders and their mistreatment of the poor. But he also shared messages of hope, including the prophecy that a ruler would one day come from Bethlehem—pointing to Jesus.
What Happened to Him – The Bible doesn’t say how Micah’s life ended. However, in Jeremiah 26:18-19, he is remembered as a prophet who warned about Jerusalem’s destruction but was not harmed for speaking the truth. This suggests he may have been respected, or at least not persecuted, for his messages.
