In Faith: Touching The Hem Of His Garment

Do you need to reach out in faith and start touching the hem of His garment? Join me in reading about a women who stepped out in faith for her healing.

If they had newspaper in those times the headliner might have been: Bleeding Woman Touches Jesus

A woman, ashamed and desperate for healing, stood just outside the crowd. Broken, frantic, financially exhausted and alone.

She was considered unclean by her community, because she had an issue of blood twelve years long.

Her family wasn’t allowed to sit where she sat. She wasn’t allowed to touch her family and friends. For 12 long, painful years.

Can you imagine how she must have felt?

She was a real woman. She felt pain. Loneliness. Longing for a touch. Financially broke. She was judged about something that was outside of her control. She was exhausted and abandoned.

Surrounded by a large crowd, Jesus walked through her town. Whispers and rumors of these miraculous healings that He could perform spread like wild-fire in an open prairie.

I imagine she felt like all the other doctors and medicine could not heal her so how could this newcomer possibly do any better, but she had to try.

She had nothing left to hope for. This man named Jesus and the stories of His healing power fanned a flame of hope inside her to try once more.

Twelve years of seeking help with no cure in sight.  Waiting on God. Her bank account stood empty. She must have felt so weak from all this bleeding.

She was considered unclean by Levitical law and wasn’t allowed to be near to rest of her community. Everything she touched was considered unclean at this time.

Isolated. Abandoned.

She had to cling to this hope of Jesus. She had to see if this Jesus could heal her.

She Touched The Hem Of His Garment

Determined, she pressed in to the crowd that surrounded this miracle worker named Jesus.

She pressed through the crowd. Face covered for fear of being discovered. Pushing her way in. Jesus was surrounded by so many. everyone stepping closer to Him, to hear, to touch and to see what He was all about.

Touching The Hem Of His Garment.

She pushed through.

The flames of hope grew every inch that she was able to crawl closer to Jesus.

Finally, she made it. She reached out, secretly, almost ashamed to be near Him.

With hope now racing through her, believing with everything in her, she grabbed the end of His robe. The end of Jesus garment. It was done. She knew and even felt it.

She was healed! The woman to touched the hem of His garment was healed!

Jesus stopped. He felt power leave Him. “Who touched me.”, He called out.  Peter, a fisherman turned apostle, was walking with Jesus. Peter asked Jesus what He meant by “who touched Me”. There was a great multitude of people about Jesus. There could be any number of people “touching” Him.

But no, Jesus knew someone with faith and hope had touched Him. Power left Him and He felt it.

She stepped forward. Humbled. Trembling. Admitting that it was indeed her, she touched Him. With faith and hope, believing He could be her healer.

Her salvation!

I wonder if the crowd silenced into a low hush taking a step back. As the woman with an issue of blood, as the bible calls her, must have been known around town as the unclean woman to stay away from.

She wasn’t supposed to be there, because she was considered unclean.

And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.”

Mark 5:34
New King James Version

She fell before Jesus, in awe of Him, in fear of Him, and trembling before Him.

And Jesus called her…daughter.

He called her daughter. He gave her comfort. He stopped and gave her favor. Sending her off in peace. Healed. Whole in Him. Jesus loved her.

Because of her faith. Her faith!

I’m sure she would never forget this moment with the Savior.

You can read the whole story in Luke 8:43-48. If only, friends, we would press into God like never before, just as this woman did.

Stepping out in faith. Coming broken, struggling with our flesh, finding God and leaving healed and in peace. Completely Restored.

What Does Touch The Hem Of His Garment Mean

When Jesus was walking through a crowd, a woman who had been suffering from a hemorrhage for twelve years reached out; touching the hem of His garment.

Immediately, she was healed. When Jesus asked who had touched him, the woman fell at his feet and told him what had happened. Jesus said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace” (Luke 8:43-48).

The phrase “touching the hem of his garment” is used to describe this event in the Bible. It is an act of faith and humility.

The woman was reaching out to Jesus in desperation, and he responded by healing her.

This story is a reminder that the Holy Spirit is always available to help us, no matter how desperate our situation may be. All we need to do is reach out to him in faith.

Who Was The Woman Who Touched The Hem Of His Garment

In the bible, there is a story of a woman who was suffering from a hemorrhage. The Bible doesn’t give her name and only says she was a woman with an issue of blood.

She had been hemorrhaging for twelve years and had spent all her money on doctors, but no one could heal her. She had heard about Jesus and went to find him in a crowd.

When she stepped out in faith and started touching the hem of His garment, she was immediately healed.

This story is significant because it shows the power of Jesus’ healing touch. Just touching the fringe of His garment brought this woman healing.

It also shows that Jesus is willing to help anyone who comes to him in humbleness, regardless of their social status or their condition.

This story is a reminder that we should always turn to Jesus in times of need, because He is always willing to help us.

What Scripture Says If You Could Just Touch The Hem Of His Garment

The Bible story of the woman having an issue of blood and who reached out and touched the hem of His garment can be found in Matthew 9:20-22.

Just then a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak. She said to herself, “If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.”
Jesus turned and saw her. “Take heart, daughter,” he said, “your faith has healed you.” And the woman was healed at that moment.

Matthew 9:20-22

It can also be found in the book of Luke.

Touching The Hem Of His Garment

And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years, but no one could heal her. She came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak, and immediately her bleeding stopped.
“Who touched me?” Jesus asked.
When they all denied it, Peter said, “Master, the people are crowding and pressing against you.”
But Jesus said, “Someone touched me; I know that power has gone out from me.”
Then the woman, seeing that she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and fell at his feet. In the presence of all the people, she told why she had touched him and how she had been instantly healed. Then he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.”

Luke 8:43-48 NIV

If I Can Just Touch The Hem Of His Garment

Good News!! The hem of his garment can still be touched by faith.

In Luke 8:43-44, we read about a woman who had been bleeding for twelve years and had spent all her money on doctors, but no one could heal her.

Then she came up behind Jesus and touched the border of his garment. Sometimes the simplest truths in the Bible are the most profound.

“I will be healed.”, she said to herself as she reached for Jesus. And she touched the hem of his garment.

She approached Jesus stealthily and touched the hem or border of his garment. Why did she do this? Because that is how her faith reasoned. Mark 5:28 “For she said, “If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.””

Reach out to Jesus for your healing today. Emotional, spiritual or physical healing can be found in Christ Jesus.
