Thousands of dollars spent to bring our house back to the condition it was when we left it. Countless hours of driving and work, plus the thousands of dollars, that we won’t get back in the selling process.
We have been dealing with the stress, time, effort, mental fatigue and “negotiations” which led to us being railroaded by our property managers in the effort to sell our house.
To say that my husband and I have experienced frustration and anger is an understatement. We’ve struggled with knowing what the “Christian thing to do” was. We’ve struggled with deciding whether or not to seek legal counsel.
As I listened to my husband try to empty his brain of all his frustration, opinions and ideas regarding what we should do next and how to plan out this very stressful week, I kept thinking only one thing.
“We need to stop all this and pray. We just need to pray,” I interrupted him.
Until the super late hours (or is it, wee early hours of morning?) we prayed together, pleading for God to be our fortress and refuge. Praying that God would grant us wisdom in how to proceed. We prayed for God to be our encouragement, our strength, our safety & protection.
We were at the end of our ropes and had absolutely nowhere else to turn.
What a blessing that was!
It is a blessing because our strength failed us and we were still able to approach the throne of grace in our weakness, knowing He is strong and already has this all figured out. We were reminded that we have reason to trust in His sovereignty and faithfulness.
Nevertheless, I am continually with you;
you hold my right hand.
You guide me with your counsel,
and afterward you will receive me to glory.
Whom have I in heaven but you?
And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you.
My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. — Psalm 73:23-26
When we have nowhere else to go, God, in His wonderful mercy, implores our hearts to be strengthened in His ability to sustain us. It is in His presence that we find peace because we know that He is covering us. He is walking this road with us. He knows our needs and He meets those needs.
Seek the Lord and his strength;
seek his presence continually!
— 1 Chronicles 16:11
So, while we still navigate this journey of stewarding our house until a buyer is provided, we will stay on our knees and rely on God’s wisdom and provision. We will rejoice, knowing He is faithful even in our weakness.

I have to admit, it has taken me a while to write this post. I’ve been in a “dry spell”, and have really had to trust the Lord just to bring me through and help me write it…and He has! I was praying over what to write for this series, because I couldn’t seem to…
I stayed up too late. Again. I wasn’t marathoning “Downton Abbey”. I wasn’t studying for finals. I was giving. I belong to that unique set of moms that is raising both young kids and teenagers. This isn’t exactly my comfort zone. I grew up without siblings. Toys? All mine. Attention? Oh yeah, all mine. Money…
