Why Pray For Your Husband?

Your husband. 

He is the most important person in your life, besides God. 

Your best friend. 

Partner in life. 

Father to your kiddos.

Lover. 

You love him and want him to be all who God has called him to be.

As wives we can stand on the authority that God has given us and powerfully pray and intercede for our husbands.

Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Luke 10:19

Why pray for your husband?

 

Your husband needs your to pray for him. The blessing of praying for your husband.

Men face hard struggles and temptations in life. Some-days may be very difficult for them to lean on and trust God. The enemy is out to get our husbands. He is out to get the head of families because he knows if he can get the head of families to fall the rest of the family is wide open to be attacked from the enemy. 

I’m a stay at home mom. I am somewhat protected from certain “evils”, but my husband goes out into this world and is exposed to things while at work and being around other people. 

Of course, I need my husband, as the head of our home, to pray for me, our marriage and our kids. However, my role as his wife calls me to daily lift him up in prayer, whether he is praying for me or not. 

We must pray. 

I’m not talking about a “God please change my husband.” or a “God did you see what he did, GET HIM.” type of prayer. Nor a “Lord fix him, but I’m good” prayer. 

I’m speaking of a Baring Your Soul to God kind of prayer for yourself and your husband. 

Humbling yourself before God, as a child of God and wife to your husband, as you pray. Lifting up your husband to God. Lifting up your marriage to God. Asking God to get out of your lives whatever is hindering your relationship with HIM! Praying for protection over your husband; both physical protection and spiritual protection. 

Pray the Armor of God over your husband and your marriage. 


Ephesians 6:10-18 (NIV)

The Armor of God

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.”

Who is the enemy according to this scripture? Is it your husband? No! It says: “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”

Praying for our husbands is one of the most important and rewarding things we can do as wives. 


Being a christian does not mean we are exempt from problems and bumps in the road. Whether they are small bumps or mountain size bumps, we will all have to get through them. That is why it is so important to stand in prayer for our husbands. 

Let’s not wait till there is a problem that comes up. We won’t be prepared! Let’s start now!

Pray without ceasing


Be encouraged when you pray, knowing that our Heavenly Father loves us and we can trust in Him to work all things out for His glory, as we lay everything down at His feet.
