I’m always on the look out for new ways to show my husband that I love and appreciate him. I haven’t always been the best at expressing to him the love, respect and appreciation that he deserves as my husband, father of our kids and leader of our family. It was definitely something that I had to learn along the way in our marriage. I now thoroughly enjoy filling his love bucket up and look for different ways to do just that. Not that I’ve perfected it by any means, but I am so much better at it then when we first got married. If nothing else, I have at least a much better attitude about it than before.
I’m sharing with you some of my favorite ways to say “I Love You” to my husband in hopes it may inspire you to find joy in filling up your husband’s love bucket.
Words of Affirmation: Find a real reason to praise him at least once a day. Tell your husband what you love about him. Express how much you appreciate him and all that he does for you. After he had cut the grass, helped you in the kitchen or played Mr. Fix-it tell him what a great job he has done. Tell him how much you appreciate his hard work. Tell him that you missed him after he has been away on business. Tell him you love him every day.
Sticky Notes: I love writing little notes of love, appreciation and encouragement on sticky notes for my husband. You’ll find me putting those sticky notes in his lunch box, on his steering wheel in his truck, on his mirror in the morning and other fun places where he will be sure to see them. Sometimes it’s a simple, “I’m praying for you” or “I believe in you”. Other times it may be something silly or romantic.
Acts of Service: When you get up to get yourself something to drink or a snack, ask your husband if you can get him anything as well. Every once in a while, make his favorite meal. My husband likes a sweet treat after dinner, so I try to have his favorite treats on hand for him. When out running errands, ask him if he needs you to pick up anything for him. We both are coffee drinkers, so I will often times make his coffee for him in the mornings.
Touch: When your husband comes home from work; greet him with a hug and a kiss. After dinner, sit beside him on the couch and cuddle. When you go for walks, hold his hand. Give him a back massage after an exhausting day. Be the first to initiate intimacy from time to time.
Play: Being silly with your husband is important to keep the joy in your marriage. Fun tickle fights, playful arm punches, towel fights, and smacking his tush when he walks by are all fun ways to be silly with your husband. Go for walks together. Try something new together. Go kayaking, swimming, ice skating or whatever the two of you may enjoy together. Find ways to laugh and be playful with your husband every day.
Pray: Daily pray for your husband. Lifting him, his needs and wants up to our loving God. Ask God to give him everything he needs to have a great day. Ask your husband if there is anything that you could be praying about for him. Pray the Armor of God over your husband. Read Ephesians 6:10-18.
“However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.” Ephesians 5:33
When we, as wives, show respect and love to our husbands, when we take the time to invest in our marriage; we build up our marriage and we build up our husband’s feelings of self worth. We fill our husband’s love bucket up by showing him love and respect. That in turn usually draws us wives back to our husband and marriage.
