I hate what I had to go through, but at the same time I am eternally grateful for it, as it brought me to my knees before God and I clung to him. With the stinging tears and broken heart that found me abandoned, I’m grateful. My relationship with God, understanding of His will and love and a thirst for God grew within me in such a deeper way that I never want to go back to where I was before.

I didn’t get what I prayed and fasted for, I got something much more!

What Does God Say About Hard Times

We don’t have to wonder if we will have trials in this life time; we’re told to expect them. We have comfort in tough times and the good news is we don’t have to face those trials alone. Our God and Prince of Peace is watching out for us and wants to help us find strength and a stronger faith.

In your suffering there is an intimate relationship with the Lord that grows stronger than in any other season of your life. Often we think we are abandoned or God is silent, but that is so far from the truth. Sometimes hard times show the hand of God provide and bless you.

Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him. James 1:12

What Is a Good Scripture For Comfort

Comfort in Tough Times

“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” Psalm 27:1

“It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.” Deuteronomy 31:8

“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” Psalm 23:4

“He sets on high those who are lowly, and those who mourn are lifted to safety.” Job 5:11

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” John 14:27

What Does The Bible Say About Life Struggles

Every mature believer has at one time or many times dealt with unimaginable obstacles in the way of God’s direction for their lives. What to do with these obstacles? What Comfort Does God Give In Tough Times?

Put aside all sinful behaviors.

“Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us (Hebrews 12:1).

Sometimes obstacles are in our way because of sinful choices that we are making. Because of the cross—believers are no longer chained to living in sin—we are free to walk away from sin by the power of God. It’s our choice to remain in sins because we find short-lived pleasure in them; however, we can’t expect obstacles to dissipate until we confess and repent of our sinfulness.

Deal with the strongholds in our mind.

“The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:4-6).

Some obstacles that we deal with aren’t even real because we have let our fears, worries, or lies from others keep us paralyzed from dealing with obstacles. Many times the key to overcoming a major obstacle is to first deal with what we allow our minds to focus on and refocus our thinking to be on track with the Word of God. Meditation, memorization, and reflection of God’s word on a daily basis will demolish every wrong thought. Make it a priority!

6 Ways to Find Comfort In Tough Times

How do I feel God’s comfort

Struggles come in all shapes and sizes – fears, addictions, persecution, and worries can all seem to take over our thoughts. God tells us that we will face trials, but that we should not lose hope! Be encouraged, God has called you an overcomer! He is our comforter!

  1. “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are ever before me.” Isaiah 49:15-16

God has literally engraved your name into His hand. To engrave something is to make something permanently known. When I engrave something, I am permanently associating with that name. God is permanently associating His nature with His children. He will never forget his children because He will always have a reminder “close at hand.”

2. “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:18

If you count yourself among the brokenhearted today, know that God is close to you. He scoops up those who are crushed in spirit and cradles you in the palm of his hands.

3. Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. John 14:1-3

God secures our future with him in heaven. No matter the fear and chaos we must go through ere on earth, we can find Comfort In Tough Times knowing that God has a place specifically planned just for you and me.

4. But above all pursue his kingdom and righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matthew 6:33

Emotional health in the Christian life comes first from looking outside ourselves. Hate sin, love Christ, trust in his power to save, seek to live for his glory, and we mature in emotional health. The truly happy person seeks God in his word, planting himself by life-giving streams, and his “leaf does not wither” (Psalm 1:3). We seek first for God, and, in finding him, we gain fullness of joy in him, and heaven thrown in.

5. Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort we ourselves are comforted by God. For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also abounds through Christ. 2 Corinthians 1:2-5

Find Comfort In Tough Times knowing that in our troubles the Father of mercies and God of all comfort stands beside you! May He dry every tear and soothe every pain and remind you that weeping may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning, and may you remember that God is your refuge and strength, a very present help in time of trouble, and He will never leave you or forsake you, for you are born of His Spirit, and you are fearfully and wonderfully made in His image, according to His likeness.

6. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2

Let Truth Transform Your Feelings. As we remember God’s truth, our feelings are transformed. God’s holy reign and faithful deliverance far transcend our fleeting emotions and distressing circumstances. So we choose to rehearse these truths when God seems far away, to praise him even when we cannot feel him.

God May Allow Bad Things To Happen To Save Us

“But we must never forget: Christianity is about so much more than comforting erratic human psychologies. Christianity doesn’t terminate on us. The word of the cross is not first given for present mental health but for the eternal salvation of the soul. Emotional flourishing will be found in the shadow of the cross — a cross which is not first and foremost about emotional flourishing.

God has much to say to the anxious, the depressed, the angry, the grieving, the confused, the despondent, to all the discontent who will trust him. But God’s revelation isn’t primarily about meeting these ailments. Jesus did not come into the world to first save us from our sadness — but our sin.

Yet that is not what the new prosperity gospel of emotional health, wealth, and happiness teaches. We may shake our heads at messages about Jesus bringing believers mansions and Mercedes, all the while subtly believing that Jesus’s primary mission entailed giving us our best (emotional) lives now.” – Desiring God

We all go through valleys; I don’t think any of us are alone in this.  I think we all wait for the Lord to move. It’s not the wait that matters; it’s what you do while you wait.

Do you grumble and complain?

Do you search for the quickest way out?

Do you lift your praise just going through the motions because it is the right thing to do?

Or do you stand and praise Him, empty hands held high expecting Him to fill you to overflowing in the land of the dry?

The longer you wait to praise, the easier it is to quit.  The more you lift your voice in praise, the easier it is to wait.
