My kids are growing up. They aren’t little anymore. I was looking through my Facebook memories this morning and was smiling ear to ear at the pictures that popped up of my kids when they were little.
Playing in the snow. Sliding down the hill in make-shift sleds. Laughing.
I have a love hate relationship with FB memories. Some are painful and trigger the memories of past betrayals all over again. I’m healing.
But, some of those memories are beautiful and bring such joy. Like the pictures of my kids playing in the snow when they were younger.

“Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.” – Exodus 20:12 NIV
This is the first commandment with a promise attached to it, and the promise is long life. How can we honor our parents? By obeying them, respecting them, and speaking well of them. When we do this, we are honoring God, who is their ultimate authority.
Let me add that sometimes in cases of toxic parents we have to set boundaries or even cut parents out of our lives. We can still be respectful and have limited contact with someone.

This verse is a reminder to children to obey their parents in everything. We are to please the Lord by obeying those He has placed in authority over us. When we do this, we are showing God that we respect His authority.
