As a child, on the 4th of July, I used to love playing with the sparklers. My dad would light the sparkler stick and I’d twirl around and watch the stream of light dance around me. I would also try to write my name in sparkler lights too. Giggles and sparklers filled those family nights. Great memories!
Now as an adult, on the 4th of July, I get to watch in awe as large fireworks splash its different colors and shapes against the night sky, lighting up all our faces in awe and amazement.
And it reminds me of God’s light. How it pierces through the dark sky and equally the darkness in our world and lives. Bringing joy and life to us all.

How Does The Bible Describe Light?
In the Bible, light stands for all that is pure, good, and holy. Light usually symbolizes God’s truth because the Truth is symbolic of God himself.
Christian symbolism sometimes associates “light” with spiritual understanding. It is the opposite of ignorance, which is symbolized by darkness. God’s word is described as “a lamp for my feet and a light for my path” (Psalm 119:105). In the New Testament, this same theme of edification continues to be central: “The Lord has filled you with light. Live as children who have light. Light produces everything that is good, that has God’s approval, and that is true.” Ephesians 5:8-10
Regarding the importance of light and darkness in scripture, there are many Bible verses that touch on this. What does it mean to be the light of the world? In John 8:12 Jesus applies this title to himself while debating with some tough questioners; the Jews. He states: “I am the ‘light of the world’ and whoever chooses to follow me will never walk in darkness, but will instead be enlightened by my love.”
“The light of Christ,” writes John Piper, “is the brightness of God shining on the retina of the human soul.” Life can be wonderful on earth, but not fully complete without Jesus. And life can be very hard, but Jesus promises to walk with us through the storms of life. He is our light in the darkness. We are all created to crave the Creator, our Father, and only through a relationship with our Savior Jesus can the dark parts of our hearts brighten.

How Do We Become Light To Others?
God is light; being a light means doing your best to live each day seeking God, living humbly and with the intention of glorifying God. It means showing kindness and compassion toward others, and toward yourself as well. Thank God for His Grace!
This is a way in which we can become more like our Savior, Jesus Christ, by looking for opportunities to be more like him while also lifting up others around us. We want to demonstrate this through our actions and make an effort to let others see that there’s a greater purpose behind what we do – fueling them to go out and shine their lights brightly!
A person who constantly has a general positive attitude, I’m not talking about toxic positivity here, is able to see that no matter how bad things appear, God is in control and there is more to it than what meets the eye.
Shining God’s light looks like a person who possesses a consistent hopeful outlook and knows not only that God is in control, but that He also has a path for each one of us, even on the hard days. It’s important for people such as this to be able to see the big picture rather than getting stuck on the day-to-day struggles that life throws our way from time to time. An individual with such an attitude is often better equipped at handling situations with poise and grace because they possess the ability to remain optimistic even if the circumstances aren’t ideal.
Being God’s light is letting others see how we suffer well for Christ during hard times.
