30 Activities To Get Closer To God

  1. Use Bible Topical Guide
Use the references in the back of your Bible, the YouVersion app or the Blue Letter Bible app to help you find all the scriptures that talk about Christ. Get a colored pen and highlight all of them. This will take time, but it will open your understanding of Christ and all He can do for you more than anything else! Use this 30 Names Of Jesus Scripture Writing Plan to help get you started.
  2. Study the Atonement
Christ’s atonement involves way more than you might realize. He can heal you, mentally,
physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Study about the atonement and learn just how incredible it truly is for you. The Atonement is the term used for when Jesus died on the cross so that we may be forgiven for our sins and have everlasting life. He took on all of our pain and suffering and was resurrected three days later, giving us hope that we can be resurrected too. This event occurred in the Garden of Gethsemane and at Calvary. Use my scripture writing plan on Salvation to help get your started.
  3. Serve Someone
Christ’s entire life was devoted to serving and helping others. Drawing closer to God can be done by following Christ’s example. Find new ways to serve today! When we serve others, we take the focus off of ourselves and begin to see others the way Jesus sees them. By doing this, we also see Jesus IN others (Matthew 25:40). Here are a few examples:
    ● Volunteer at a food bank
    ● Give a single mom a few hours of free babysitting time
    ● Weed your neighbor’s garden
    ● Bake cookies for a friend
    ● Write a letter of encouragement to someone who is grieving
    ● Visit the elderly
  4. Be Still
When Christ needed some time alone to talk to the Father and for some quiet time, He often
retrieved to the mountains, off in a boat alone, or to the gardens. There is great power in learning how to be still. Take some time today to simply be and notice how it feels. You can do this through deep breathing or being outside and simply observing what you feel, see, and hear. I created a “Resting In God” mini course that many have already found helpful to them and I hope you’ll enjoy it as well.
  5. Follow a Prompting Have you felt like you needed to do something, but haven’t done it yet? Do it today! This will help you draw closer to Christ as you follow the promptings from the Father. You will be acting as the Savior did for so many others. Check out my course, Planning, Preparation & Prioritizing.
  1. Be in Nature
God made this earth beautiful just for us. You can see His fingerprints in the small blessings all around us. The butterfly that lands by your side, the gently breeze that tousles your hair, and the sweet smell of flowers. So it makes sense we can feel His love and power while we are in it! Take time to go on a nature walk and simply be in awe of the beauty all around you. Go for a prayer walk!
  2. Start a Spiritual Journal
A spiritual journal is an important tool that can help you through difficult times by providing a way to reflect on the spiritual experiences in your life. It can be helpful to look back on your spiritual journey and see how far you’ve come, especially during tough times when you feel like you’re not making any progress. I love journaling, but especially scripture journaling.
  3. Listen to a Christian Podcast
While you do dishes or cook, turn on a Christian podcast. It may take some time to sort through until you find one you like, but there is so much power in hearing other people’s testimony of Christ too!
  4. Give Yourself Grace
Christ provides us with grace, so why not extend the same courtesy to ourselves? We all make mistakes, but that doesn’t mean we are bad people! It only means we are human and doing our best. When you get off track give yourself grace and then immediately do your best to get back on track.
  5. Give Something Up for Him
Are you doing something you know you should stop? Consider giving something up so you can draw closer to Christ. Do you spend too much time on Facebook, struggle with a bad habit, or watch a tv show that isn’t the best? Fasting is a great tool for drawing closer to God. Use my Fasting And Praying Guide today!
  6. Look for His Power in Your Life
Christ is always with us, and everything we do should reflect that. He should be the most important thing in our lives, and we should look to Him for guidance and power. Be grateful for His presence in your life, even if you don’t realize it at the time. He has helped you in more ways than you may realize, and He will continue to do so as long as you keep Him at the forefront of your mind and actions. Use my Cherishing The Small Things Journal to help you with this.
  7. Participate in Church
Giving back to your community is one of the most rewarding experiences you can have. It not only helps those in need, but it also gives you a sense of pride and accomplishment. When you donate your time or resources to a worthy cause, you are making a difference in the world. Volunteering at your church is a great way to serve others and to be like Jesus Christ. From the Nursery workers, door greeters, janitors, teachers, worship team or any other position…they all are equally important and needed roles for all churches. Volunteering at your local church is one way to help in drawing closer to God.
  8. Study One of Christ’s Parables in the Bible
Did you know that there are several parables that Christ used in the Bible? Why not take the time to select one and study it more thoroughly? By doing so, you may come to find a new meaning or understanding that you never realized was there before.
  9. Act on Your Faith
In the Bible, we read that “faith without works is dead.” Act on your faith today in all you do.
Even if you are nervous, trust the Lord that everything The Bible instructs us that faith without works is dead. So today, take your faith and put it into action in everything you do. Coming closer to Christ can be achieved by asking for His guidance in your daily life. It’s not easy, but it’s worth it to try your best to have this connection with the Lord. Read these Bible verses on waiting on God.
  14. Set a Reminder to Think About Christ on Your Phone

to daily think of Christ. I have many alarms on my phone to help me remember different things I need to do and time with God is one of the.
